Texas Tech University
I am an instructor of applied linguistics and ESL writing at Texas Tech University. I hold a Ph.D. in English with a concentration in linguistics and an M.A. in applied linguistics with a specialization in second language acquisition. My research and teaching interests are in the fields of linguistics, literature, and composition studies. In linguistics, I conduct research in second language acquisition and instruction, bilingualism, sociolinguistics, gender and language, conversation analysis, and storytelling. In literature, I am interested in cross-cultural narratives and gender representation in literary texts and films. In composition, I study second language writing, particularly the effect of various types of feedback on the development of ESL textual competence. The goal of my teaching and research in linguistics, literature, and composition is to uncover and promote the best principles of effective cross-cultural communication and multiliteracy.
